Sharon Black is a retired University of Pennsylvania librarian whose work appears in more than 40 literary journals. Many of these poems, and some newer ones, have just been published in a collection (her first) called The Snow Arrow: Selected Poems (The Poetry Box, 2026).
Sharon is also a playwright. Her first foray into the genre resulted in a dark comedy, Welcome to the RAA, that received a reading in May, 2023, by RedBird Theater Company and American Theater Practice in collaboration with the Burning Coal Theater in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is at work on a second play called The Drip where hypodermic media indoctrination, climate change, cultism, and conceptual art collide to test family relations.
Retirement has brought still another challenge: abstract painting which brings her great joy. “There’s very little pressure in painting for me. I’m just so tickled to be actually doing it!” Sharon lives in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, with her husband, but they also spend a lot of time in the Adirondacks on Rainbow Lake.
